2019 ELECTIONS: GOVERNOR IKPEAZU ASSURES COMMITMENT TO PEACE

Ahead of the forthcoming general elections in Abia State, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has assured of his commitment to peace and tranquility during the election.
The Governor who was speaking during the signing of peace accord organized by an NGO, Hope Givers Initiative in collaboration with Vision Africa Radio urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to ensure fair play among the political parties.
In their speeches, the Abia State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Joseph Ilo, the Director General of Hope Givers Initiative and organizer of the programme, Mrs. Onyeka Udegbulam urged the contestants to ensure their followers maintain peace through out the elections.
Dr. Joseph Ilo, the Abia State Resident Electoral Commissioner went further to say that the essence of the peace accord is to ensure peace in the State. He said, “the peace accord would reduce election violence and crises in Abia State”. He went ahead to assure that INEC would continue to be credible and requested all to jettison violence and appreciate peace.
Earlier, the President, Vision Africa Bishop Ndukwe Onuoha called on all the candidates in the election not to allow the outcome of the elections to divide Abia State or cause problems in their personal relationships.
Only nine candidates were present to sign the peace accord.
