ABIA AND ENUGU STATES AGREED FOR THE PEACEFUL DEMARCATION OF INTERSTATE BOUNDARY…

In it’s continued efforts towards the resolution/definition process of the Abia/Enugu interstate boundary, the National Boundary Commission convened a joint meeting of officials on the interstate boundary at Aguiyi Ironsi conference center umuahia,Abia state on Tuesday 13th Feb 2018,to discuss the status of past works and work out a programme of activities towards the definition of the boundary, Surv. Adamu A. Adaji ,Director Internal Boundaries who stood in for the Director General National Boundary Commission chaired the meeting..

In his opening remarks,the Deputy Governor of Abia state Rt.Hon.Ude Oko Chukwu who double as the chairman of Abia state boundary committee ,said he is glad to say that Abia/Enugu interstate boundary issue is the only boundary corridor that is very peaceful in Abia state, as he used the opportunity to congratulate our people on both sides of the boundary for their sense of understanding and peaceful coexistence as he call on the other border communities to emulate this good example.
The Deputy Governor of Enugu state Hon Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo ESQ who was represented by HRH Igwe Amb. L.O.C Agubuzu OON said that the people of Abia/Enugu states had lived together as brothers and sisters prior to the state creation exercises which started in 1967,and must continue to see one another as one.
Finally, a COMMUNIQUÉ was issued at the end of the meeting. After friendly and fruitful deliberations the meeting noted as follows:-
I. That the Abia/Enugu interstate boundary is relatively peaceful
II. That the states and the affected communities are desirous for the quick definition of the boundary and
III. That the relevant documents for use on the boundary are yet to be screened and accepted.
The meeting therefore resolved that( a).the two States shall search for delimitation documents describing/defining the Abia/Enugu interstate boundary( b.)that the delimitation documents (4 copies) be submitted to the National Boundary Commission not later than 19th march 2018 in Abuja and shall be screened on 2nd April 2018 in Abuja. (C) That the joint field team shall be inaugurated at Awgu ,Awgu LGA of Enugu state on 16th April 2018 to flag off the exercise.
The highlights was the signing of the communiqué by the two Deputy Governors.
