Abia State has been selected as the southeast centre for NPower Skill Acquisition centre.
Abia will host the Southeast flagg off of the opening ceremony, house the warehousing of all the skill equipment training.
It was made known today, Monday 27th Feb 2017, by the Minister of Labour and Productivity Sen Chris Ngige who visited the Multidisciplinary Skill Centre Umuobiakwa in Obingwa LGA Abia State as part of the activities leading to the official Flagg off of the programme.
Briefing Newsmen, the State Focal person Mr Chinenye Nwaogu commended the Federal government for choosing Abia and assured them that the state will ensure the success of the programme.
He further thanked the Governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for creating an ambience that has made the state a centre of attraction for national programmes. He reiterated that the programme will be of great value to the youths of the state in terms of skill acquisition.
Five other centres were also accredited in the state.
Npower is a joint federal government job programme supported by the state government.
Over 3200 Abia youths were successfully mobilised into the programme coordinated by the focal person for social investment in the state .
Each of the beneficiaries receive a monthly allowance of #30,000 and they are posted to public primary/ secondary schools, health centres and ADP facilities.
The programme is set to last for 2 years, thereafter, they will receive skill training that will set them up for growth before exiting the programme.
It is on record that Abia State was the first state in the entire south east whose beneficiaries started receiving their allowances since December 2016.
