On my way back from covering the Vice President’s visit on Friday evening, I and my team were attracted by some men from the State Ministry of Environment vigorously working at the flood-control project taking shape along Ubakala road, before the Umuahia South LGA headquarter, coming from the Aba/Umuahia/Enugu expressway.
This place is well known for getting flooded after every heavy downpour. Everyone who regularly ply this road will attest that every heavy rain brings nightmare to the traders whose shops are located along the road, but today succor has come.
For Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu’s people oriented government, providing livelihood to all her citizen is very crucial and key to achieving its goal in the context of poverty reduction. This is why the Governor has once again intervened, through the Ministry of Environment, to bring permanent solution to the suffering of these traders and residents whose subsistence and wellbeing depend on the commercial activities revolving around that vicinity.
Our interaction with the men at work and the traders along the road are captured in this short clip.
