Abia State University, Uturu has moved from 93 to 63 in recent university rankings in the country. This followed the consistent efforts of the school in ensuring it regained its position of being on top academically across the country.
The Pro Chancellor of the institution, Senator Adolph Wabara disclosed this when the Governing Council of the institution paid the Governor a courtesy call at Government House, Umuahia. Sen. Wabara noted that the stride was informed by the support of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu despite the paucity of funds in the state. He s
aid the Governor’s effort has assisted them in the area of staff welfare, maintain stable academic calendar, enhance discipline, expand academic base and also introduce new courses.
Senator Wabara commended the Governor for his bold step at moving the faculties of law and business administration to Umuahia, noting that this will enhance efficiency and practical a
pproach to academics.
The Pro Chancellor enumerated some of the challenges facing the school to include completion of classrooms, and staff, and security to effect speedy accreditation of the Umuahia campus by the National Universities Commission, slated for next year.

re the reactivation of ABSU Alumni and make Local Governments assist and fund the ivory tower to help raise the much needed Internally Generated Revenue.
In his response, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu commended the efforts of the institution for improving the standard of learning that led to a move from 93 to 63 position in recent rankings. Dr. Ikpeazu noted that the synergy that exists in the institution informed the feat and urged other citadel of learning in the state to emulate su
ch achievements.
The Governor also commended the school for its efforts at curtailing cultism and called on them to remain good refere
nce points and match its achievements to remain ahead.
He noted that the relocation of the faculties of law and business administration would enhance learning and promised that the school would have some imprints in the next two months with adequate security provided.
Dr. Ikpeazu also promised to give the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, ABSUTH, a boost from January 2017.
