A fresh plot to impeach Imo Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, by the state Assembly is allegedly being instigated by Governor Rochas Okorocha.
Governor Okorocha and his group had accused the deputy governor of having led the onslaught that resulted in their loss of last Saturday’s APC ward congress in the state to party stakeholders.
Daily Sun reliably gathered that a source from the Government House revealed that Okorocha was angry over the humiliation he suffered at the ward congress and vowed to pay back his deputy in his own coin.
The source from House of Assembly from Okigwe zone, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, revealed that one of the governor’s aides, from Amigbo in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, had hosted members of the House of Assembly in his country home, where issues of alleged directive from Governor Okorocha, to impeach his deputy, was formerly conveyed to 18 members of the legislature.
The source further claimed that it was the former majority leader who addressed select members of the legislature to carry out the plot of impeaching the deputy governor and advanced reason of refusal to endorse Governor Okorocha’s son-in-law for governor, and for forming an alliance with the political enemies of the governor, during the just concluded ward congress, apparently to humiliate the state governor.
The source also disclosed that another meeting was held on Monday, at Governor’s Lodge, where the matter was further discussed and it was alleged that the office of the governor has allegedly earmarked a whopping N1.5 billion to ensure the impeachment of the deputy governor was effected by members of the House, who had earlier endorsed the governor’s son- in- law as the next governor of the state in 2019.
Also, to further perfect the impeachment plot, the group allegedly held another meeting on Tuesday, at the G-Towers Hotels, along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri.
However, a member of the Assembly, Mike Ihenetu, said an impeachment plot against the deputy governor was rumoured some time ago, but it never came to the floor of the House. He added that any impeachment plot against the deputy governor has a slim chance of scaling through the House because he has no problem with House members.
“It came as a rumour the first time, though anything can happen these days, but, I am not privy to any meeting. However, the chance of it scaling through is narrow, because the House has no axe to grind with the deputy governor.”
The rift between Madumere and his longtime friend and political associate, Governor Okorocha erupted over the governor’s decision to foist his son-in-law on Imo people and other sundry issues that bordered on anti-people policies and activities of the government that have brought untold hardship on the people.
