Reassures his commitment to restoring lasting peace to the community
The Member representing Arochukwu / Ohafia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Uko Nkole has described as sad and disheartening the recent attack on the Isu Community in Arochukwu LGA by their Cross River State neighbours.
Rt. Hon. Nkole, who sympathized with the Isu community, reiterated his commitments to using every available legislative input to bring the unfortunate and senseless carnage to the attention of the Federal Government.
In a letter he personally wrote in response to Chief Tony Kalu, Rt. Hon. Nkole recalled that the Isu issues have been in the front burner and a major concern to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu noting that the Governor has personally taken the matter before his counterpart in Cross Rivers State including the Deputy Governor of Abia State who is constitutionally responsible to see to the amicable resolution of the impasse.
The Lawmaker further explained that these efforts have not yielded the desired result due to the constitutional limitations imposed on Governors over security issues and made a case for the unbundling of our security architecture to give more powers to the State Governors on the deployment of security personnels.
“While you are going to United Nations this morning, please kindly carry along the message on the need for your hosts to lend their voice on the need to unbundle the security architecture of the Nation by the President to enable respective State Governors become relevant and have a say in the matters of deployment of soldiers and other security personnel in their different States.
This is the sad truth and that until this is done, the State Governors shall continue to remain ‘logistics officers’ quoting His Excellency, the current Governor of Rivers State,” Nkole wrote.
He maintained that his motion on “Urgent National Importance on the Issue is ready for Mr Speaker’s consent and also ready to be discussed again in the Green chamber,” assuring that he would not relent on the Isu issues until lasting peace restored to the Community.
