The Interdenominational Commendation Service has been held in honour of the former Vice President of Nigeria, Chief (Dr.) Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme .
In his tribute to the late political leader, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu eulogised the life and times of Chief Alex Ekwueme.
According to the Governor, Dr. Alex Ekwueme lived a life worthy of emulation, calling on all to emulate him. He described the deceased as a leading light adding that he would be remembered as great man who contributed to the unity and development of the State.
Lending their voices, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Deputy Governors of Anambra and Imo State among others extolled the life style of late Chief Ekwueme describing him as an icon and political colossus.
The stakeholders pledged to ensure that the legacies left by Dr. Ekwueme was upheld.
Delivering his sermon, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma of the Anglican Church called on politicians to leave legacies that would outlive them. The man of God enjoined politicians to play politics without rancour and bitterness and he described Late Dr. Ekwueme as a devout Christian and an exemplary political leader, who was honest and accountable and called on the present politicians to be transparent in their dealings with Nigerians.
On his responds, on behalf of the bereaved family, Prof. Igwe Laz Ekwueme thanked the South East Governors Forum for putting together the commendation service to honour their brother and father.
