Children have been described as precious gifts whose health, education, and psychological well-being must be handled with utmost care so that they can thrive.
Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu stated this in a statement to mark the 2020 Children’s Day Celebration, adding, “providing safe spaces for children to grow must remain topmost priority for parents and society everywhere.”
In a release by her Chief Press Secretary, Chika Ojiegbe, Mrs Ikpeazu harped on the need to provide a better environment for the children whom she said are the “generation that represents the future.”
The Abia First Lady said though the 2020 Children’s Day is happening in the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic, the circumstances should reinforce the urgency for government to commit greater resources to keeping children safe.
She commended Abia State Government for “establishing a radio school for children in the state to ensure their studies does not suffer before the pandemic is brought under control”.
Mrs. Ikpeazu also commended the Abia State Government’s handling of the epidemic saying it has kept the number of infections very low, while ensuring no lives have been lost so far in the state because of the Virus.
