CONTRACTORS HANDLING FEDERAL ROADS GETS ULTIMATUM FROM GOVERNOR IKPEAZU

Contractors handling the two federal roads in the State, the Enugu-Port Harcourt and that of Aba-Ikot Ekpene Highways, has been given up to the of 20th November 2020 to return to sites, failing which, the State Government would be forced to take over the reconstruction of certain critical portions of those roads.

The ultimatum was given by Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu during an interactive session with journalists at Government House, Umuahia on Friday.

Ikpeazu said with such impassable roads in the State, the livelihood of Abia people are threatened as they are known for their commercial activities.

The Governor described good roads as the oxygen that drives the life of trade and commerce, which is one of the key pillars of his administration.

He also directed the State Commissioners for Works and Finance to ensure they pay contractors handling various road projects in the State according to the millage achieved, warning that his administration would no longer condone indolence from contractors. He made public that the State Government has not received any refund from the Federal government for federal roads done by the State Government.
