The Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has commended the Council and Management of Abia State University, Uturu for successes recorded by the present leadership led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Uche Ikonne.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Council and Management of ABSU, the Governor congratulated the school on moving upwards in the recent rating of universities in Nigeria. He appreciated the synergy and understanding among the members of the Governing Council and Management of the school and called on other institutions to borrow a leaf from ABSU so as to engender peace in their institutions, adding that he has had peace of mind since the inception of the current leadership of the school.
The Governor, who said they have impressed him by reducing cultism to the barest minimum, charged them to remain resolute and match the achievements recorded so far with the mind of going forward.
Dr. Ikpeazu used the opportunity to disclose that the decision to relocate faculties of Law and Business Administration to Umuahia campus has no political undertone, saying, it was to take the advantage of the facilities in the campus. He promised that his administration will do everything within its powers to fix the campus.
According to the Governor, arrangements on security of the campus has been concluded with the Commissioner of Police. He further informed that government has taken delivery of the first consignment of container, with medical equipment for Abia, which he assured, ABSUTH will be the first beneficiary in the State.
Speaking, the Pro-chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of ABSU, Senator Adolph Wabara said they came to express their gratitude for the confidence the Governor reposed on them and appointed them, also to appreciate him for approving the appointment of Prof. Ikonne, who he said has brought the university to the higher level. He commended the tremendous support the Governor has consistently given to the institution, saying that it has helped in the welfare of staff. He appreciated the bold step the Governor took to relocate the faculties of Law and Business Administration to Umuahia.
Senator Wabara also requested that Law faculty offices in the Umuahia campus be completed and security house built for the campus.
