EDUCATION – TOWN ALIGNMENT; A CASE FOR THE ABIA STATE E4E

The Abia State Government has a vision: when youth have the hope and dignity of employment, by creating opportunities, they can reshape their future. The E4E program objective is youth employment and to ensure a social support operation for Abians through increased industry – related training/knowledge to the poor and vulnerable, especially in information and communications technology.
The long term development and sustenance of our economy is dependent on the quantity and quality of its labour force especially in the Technical and Vocational Education Training(TVET) sector. TVET holds the key to Abia State’s ability to harness its vast human and natural potential that will lead to increase in Internally Generated Revenue(IGR), technological development, local and international relevance and the ability to compete effectively in the world market.
A QAT assessment of trainees covered by Abia Online was carried out in the various training centres across the 17 LGAs of the State. The E4E assessment team comprised up of Mrs Chiori N. (a Director of Planning, Research and Statistics), Mrs. Patience Atulomah, Mr. Amaechi C., Mr. Ibe Ahunnanya, Mr. Paul Orji and Mr. Ikenna Ebiri Okoro.
Abia Online correspondent, Ebirir Okoro, reported that about 120 Questionnaires were distributed to the E4E trainees / participants to get their honest views about the program. Responses gotten from the following centres; Ukwa East – Olive Top Business and Training Institute, Aba North – BTC Computer Training Centre, Osisioma – ICT Training Centre, to mention but a few, are stated as follows:
1) Over 90% accepted that the Computer Appreciation courses was delivered properly,
2) The training session was effective in improving their ICT knowledge in areas such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Typing Speed and Accuracy, general use of a computer,
3) About 70% said their expectations were met as regards the ICT training
4) All respondents said their facilitators put in their best into teaching,
5) More than 80% said the training sessions increased their confidence in working with a computer and on the internet,
6) They thanked the State Government for the efforts thus far and asked for more stable power supply.
E4E aims to provide education and support that leads directly to public, private or self-employment through planned linkages with industries and other stakeholders.
