ERA OF “DUBAI” ROADS IN ABA OVER, IKPEAZU DECLARES AS HE COMMISSIONS OSUSU ROAD

The Osusu Road, Aba reconstructed by the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, has officially been commissioned and opened for use by the general public.

Speaking at the event, Governor Ikpeazu declared that the Era of “Dubai” road in Aba was over given his government’s poise to deliver quality road infrastructure as the minimum standard henceforth is rigid pavement technology.

The Governor who noted that government has fulfilled its own responsibility of providing quality road to residents of Osusu, said it behooves them to protect it for their own good. He charged for landlords and residents to set up a neighborhood taskforce to assist in protecting the road.

He said his government decided to reconstruct the road to give the people of the area a new lease of life even as he recalled that in 2014 the road was impassable putting all economic activities then at a standstill.

He directed the Commissioner for Works, Elder Bob Ogu to mobilize at least ten earthmoving equipment for serious construction works at Ngwa Road within the next four weeks or face sack with other officials supervising the ongoing works.

The Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, while noting that the number of roads already done by the Governor in Aba was enough for his critics to applaud him, thanked the Governor for constructing quality roads.

Also speaking, the Chairman House Committee on Works and Project Monitoring, Ginger Onwusibe saluted Governor Ikpeazu and described the Osusu Road project as one of the signature projects of the Governor. He urged him to continue to work for the people as his works would speak for him.

In his speech, the Commissioner for Works, Bob Ogu reminded the Osusu residents that it is their responsibility to protect the road and disclosed that the Governor has directed the completion of Okigwe road, Eziukwu road, Millerton Avenue and Ojike lane all in Aba before the end of the dry season.

Commissioning the road, the Apostolic Nuncio and Head of Diplomatic Missions to Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and Catholic Archbishop, Most Reverend Fortunatus Nwachukwu extolled the Governor for his giant strides in road constructions and emplored him to continue in his good works to the people.

Earlier, the Chairman, Aba South LGA, Clinton Ebere and and his Aba North LGA, Prince Chimehilaura Ikonne stated that the Aba community is happy over the reconstruction of Osusu Road by the Governor and described it as quality service delivery to the people. They recalled how delapidated the road was and thanked for changing the narratives.

Also, the PDP State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Asiforo Okere said PDP is proud of Governor Ikpeazu’s achievements and appreciated the good work done. Contributing, Eze Isaac Ikonne saluted the Governor for remembering the people and reconstructing the road and prayed God to bless him.

Speaking on behalf of the landlords, Aba Chamber of Commerce and Residents , Mr. Nnadozie Kajetan, Lawrence Obette and Mrs. Promise Nwagba as well as the ASMATA Chairman thanked Governor Ikpeazu for making the road motorable again. They promised to take responsibility and protect the road from being messed up.

Making a speech, the contractor that handled the road project and Managing Director, Eckeen Integrated Services, Engineer Uzoma Onuoha, who narrated how bad the road was and efforts made to reclaim and reconstruct it, described the completion of the road as restoration of people’s livelihood.

He thanked the Governor for his support to deliver the road which he explained, was solidly constructed using a combination of regid and flexible pavement technology, and assured that given the quality of work done, the road would last decades.
