In a bid to curb farmers / herders clash in Isialangwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, the Transition Committee Chairman of the Area, Chief Ike Anyatonwu has inaugurated a Cattle menace Resolution Committee with an Assistant Commissioner of Police as Chairman.
Inaugurating the Committee, the Local Government Chairman, Chief Anyatonwu said the aim of constituting the committee is to solve conflicts between farmers and herdsmen in the area.
According to him, the mandate of the committee is to detect and nip in the bud issues of conflicts that usually erupt between the farmers and herders in the area, saying that there is need to curb such problems before they get out of hand.
The LG boss charged the Committee members to work assiduously to make sure such problems are well-mannaged as well as assess destruction of crops and other farm produce or malicious killing of cattle where it occurs and recommend the necessary compensations to either of the parties. He urged the committee members to make sure people do not take laws into their hands as two wrongs cannot make a right and expressed happiness that with the committee on ground, people would be confident that crises would not occur as they would be reporting to the government the issues of conflicts between the farmers and herdsmen through the committee.
Responding on behalf of other members, the Chairman of the Committee and an Asst. Commissioner of Police, who also doubles as the Area Commander for Isialangwa North and South LGAs, Mr. Onuoha Chikadibia assured that the committee would perform and not fail in the confidence the government and the people repose on them.
