Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has commended the Police and other security agencies for stepping-up their game in Abia State.
The Governor made the commendation while receiving a delegation of the DIG, Valentine Ntomchukwu in the Executive Chambers of Government
House, Umuahia.
He called on the Police to fight against a new wave of crime known as street cultism, which introduces young people to all forms of drug abuse in Nigeria. He maintained that safety and security were the enablers of development which must be taken care of.
Governor Ikpeazu announced that by the end of this month, the Police building in Umuahia would commence and would be completed in record time.
Earlier, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Research & Planning, Abuja, Valentine Ntomchukwu commended Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for his sustained assistance to them.
He said, he is in the State for a familiarization tour in the South-East, disclosing that the aim of the tour was to see what the Police in the State was doing and to review its operations plan to achieve a better success as well as ensure that crime is reduced to its barest minimum.
He said the State is strategic as a commercial nerve centre and needs adequate security, especially as the Governor is promoting the ‘Made in
Aba’ products.
DIG Ntomchukwu urged the Governor to sustain his support to the building of the Police edifice in Umuahia and requested him to build Eminent Citizens’ Forum in the State, stressing that it would relief Abia State of the funds it spends on security.
Speaking also, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Adeleye Oyebade said there is peace and tranquility in Abia State and thanked the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for his support to the Command.
The event featured handover of five Hilux vans and five motorcycles to Abia Command of the Police.
