Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has flagged-off the 2019 Women’s August meeting with a charge for women to become pillars for economic development of the society.
Speaking at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia during the 2019 August Women Delegates Conference (AWADEC) with the theme “Balance For A Better Abia”, the Governor enjoined women to acquire skills and ensure their children learn the skills too. He said it would make the children financially independent even in their matrimonial homes.
The Governor discouraged the women from using August Meetings as a time of showing off their latest clothes but use it to reason together for the benefit of the society. He assured them of the sustained support of his administration to the course of the Abia women and donated 20 million naira in support of the interest free loan scheme of the Wife of the Governor which is made for the empowerment of women in the State.
In her speech, the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu appreciated the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for his benevolence on the women of the State. She charged the women to remain committed in carrying out their roles in the society and ensure peace reigns supreme even as they remain supportive to their husbands.
Abia Online reports that the Governor’s Wife disclosed that so far the AWADEC through her office has achieved the Revolving Interest-Free Loan and pointed out that some Local Government Areas are doing well more than others. She encouraged the women to be serious with the scheme, saying that it would assist them in taking good care of their families.
Mrs. Ikpeazu, who thanked the Governor for his sustained support also expressed hope that the Governor would assist in increasing the capital used in the interest free loan scheme so that it would reach more Abia women.
Governor later inspected separate stands of Abia women from the 17 LGAs of the State.
