Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has once again been sworn-in by the State’s Chief Judge, Justice Kalu Onuoha Ogwe to steer the ship of Abia State for the next four years as the State’s Chief Executive.
Speaking after taking the oath of office at Umuahia stadium, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu pledged his readiness to do more for the people of the State, including the completion of all projects started in the first tenure. He used the opportunity to reiterate his call on all those who contested the Governorship election with him to come and join hands with him and work for the benefit of Abia people.
He reiterated that he does not take anything that transpired during the elections personal and expressed his willingness to separate electioneering from governance. According to him “I am Governor, not just of those who voted for me, but of all Abians and residents of Abia State. My mandate is for all and I shall do right to all.”
Governor Ikpeazu presented his score card for the last four years and highlighted his achievements in line with his five pillars of development. He reported that Abia State has remained a beacon of educational excellence in Nigeria, saying that in the last 4 years Abia has retained the 1st position in the West African Senior Schools Certificate Examinations and disclosed that the students with the best and second best results in the 2019 JAMB results are students schooling in Abia State. He launched large scale mushroom production and training program, has engaged in massive palm planting campaign and has provided mechanized farming equipment across the State. Dr. Ikpeazu equally said that his administration recorded remarkable impact in the area of promotion of local trade and commerce, where the Made In Aba campaign was pursued vigorously and attracted over N3 billion in direct orders into Aba. He informed that he made great achievements in infrastructure, health, security, ease of doing business and tax reforms and promised that his second term would focus on consolidating on the achievements of the first tenure, completing all our ongoing projects and creating avenues for job creation which would favour over one million youths/people.
He conveyed his unreserved gratitude to the entirety of Abians and residents of Abia State for the honour done to him by reelecting him; assuring Abia people that he has noted areas his administration got it wrong and expressed his commitment to make amends.
The event which saw the swearing-in of the Deputy Governor, Sir. Ude Okochukwu was graced by prominent Abia people including Senators T. A. Orji, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Mao Ohuabunwa among other stakeholders as the Nigerian police mounted guards of honour for the Governor.
