Seven gunmen have invaded a private clinic in Lafia, Nasarawa State, abducting five persons in the process.
Correspondent reports that the gunmen invaded Kunwarke Clinic and Maternity in Kan- Tsakuuwa, near the Federal University Lafia, took away one staff and four relations of patients, but one victim later escaped.
The Director of the hospital, who is a former deputy speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Elisha Agwadu, said the kidnappers arrived the premises thirty minutes after he left the hospital at about 8pm on Saturday.
According to a witness, the gunmen who were well armed, stormed the hospital around 8pm, shot into the air, asked everyone to lay faced down as they made away with their victims.
“The kidnappers contacted me this morning at about 6.30 and told me that this is the 26th times they have come after me without getting me, adding, ‘all we are demanding from you now if you don’t want your staff and others to be killed is N20 million.
“They put a call through to me again at about 12.20pm, demanding for the ransom and I told them to give me up to 6pm. They have asked me not to contact the police for anything.”
“But as a law abiding citizen and a gentleman who has confidence in the Police and other security agencies, I have formally reported to the police,” Agwadu said.
The police pokesperson in the state, ASP Ramhan Nansel did not respond to a call put through to him to confirm the incident.
