Gunmen kill 30 in fresh Zamfara attack

At least 30 people were killed in an attack on Dangurgu village by suspected armed bandits in Dansadau district of Maru local government area of the state, Daily Trust gathered. Dangurgu, a community located 10km west of Dansadau town was said to have fallen under armed bandits control about four years ago, before they were driven away by the security operatives and the local vigilantes.

Dansadau district is one of the areas hit hard by the activities of armed criminals. In April 2014, 120 persons were killed in attack on Yargaladima, a village located 20 km North of Dansadau town. Residents told Daily Trust that the motorbike riding armed men laid siege to the village around 6: am when a naming ceremony was taking place and started firing at them. ADVERTISEMENT “We learnt that they inched closer to the community in preparation for the attack on Saturday. When they arrived at the village, they surrounded it, thus blocking all escape routes. Who ever tried to escape was shot dead” “Some of them stayed outside the community, while others entered firing at residents. Most of those killed were the ones who tried to run away from the onslaught. And the victims were mostly killed by armed bandits who stationed themselves outside the village,” Ali Tukur said. He said 28 people were killed in the villages while one victim died in a general hospital, Dansadau while the other one died on their way to hospital. However, the acting force information officer, operation Sharan Daji Major Clement Abiade said he was yet to get the report of what actually happened. However, the spokesman of the state police command SP Muhammad Shehu said normalcy had been restored to the area with improved deployment and patrol by the security operatives.
