The Abia State House of Assembly Barr. Martins Azubuike has been removed as the Speaker of the 6th House of Assembly. Members elected Bishop Kenedy Njoku as the new Speaker.
In a matter of urgent public importance presented by Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, member representing Obingwa East State Constituency and consented by 20 out of 24 members of the House, the House alleged that Barr. Azubuike’s offences were; financial recklessness, abuse of office, insensitivity, and non inclusiveness.
Hon. Akpulonu cited Section 92, sub-section 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and moved that the Speaker be removed.
Sixteen members voted for the election of Bishop Kenedy Njoku, member representing Osisioma North while three voted for Chikwendu Kanu, member representing Isialangwa South for Speakership.
In his acceptance speech, the new Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Kenedy Njoku thanked his colleagues for electing him, saying that it was victory for all. He promised that transparency will be his watchword and he will run an inclusive government.
