May Day: Abia workers congratulate Ikpeazu, ask losers to join hands to develop state
Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Abia State chapter, have congratulated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on his recent electoral victory.
The workers who spoke through the Chairman of NLC in the state, Comrade Uchenna Obigwe, during the 2019 May Day celebration held at Ibeku High School playground, Umuahia, used the occasion to call on other contestants at the 2019 Governorship election to accept the invitation of the Governor and join hands with him to take the state to greater heights.
According to him, “Congress wishes to appreciate government’s robust relationship with labour in Abia State and request her to maintain and sustain on that in her policy formulation and implementation. This will definitely reduce friction in governance and improve productivity”.
In his response, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who was represented by the State Head of Service, Sir Onyi Wamah, thanked the workers for their support to his administration in the midst of challenges and promised not to disappoint them.
“We are currently working out the modalities for the payment of the new minimum wage and we wish to assure our workers that we are committed to their welfare.”
Governor Ikpeazu assured pensioners who protested months of unpaid pensions during the rally that his administration will end the era of non payment of pensions in the state.
This year’s celebration, Chaired by renowned entrepreneur and member representing Ohafia North state Constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Mandela OBASI, which featured colorful match past, parades and dance was attended by top Government official, leaders of organized labor in the state and other stakeholders.
