I do not write to deliver a panegyric on the Abia “Première Dame”, rather I write out of visibly laid down proofs of performance as yet another new sets of keys of newly constructed bungalows were delivered to indigent Abians by our amiable Mother two days ago.
The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu has proved beyond doubt that she is a virtuous woman, and a Mother indeed to all Abians. Posterity will engrave her name as one, who championed the cause for the perpetual well-being and happiness of the less privileged and disabled in the State. It is commendable that Mrs. lkpeazu’s pet project, “the Vicar Hope Foundation”, is serving as a veritable platform for our Mother to reach out to people in need.
Occasioned by her irresistible desire and instinct to assist those at the lowest strata of the society she is seeking to partner with well to do individuals to help galvanize resources for the realization of this noble goal. Cheeringly, the foundation is a huge success story considering the number of Abians their lives have been given a turned around.
One of the initiatives of Mrs. Ikpeazu which is not only foremost, but cardinal in the annals of her achievements is the Free School Feeding Programmme that is envisioned to cater for the nutritional needs of school children, this have been going on in the three senatorial districts of the State. The gains of this programme is enormous as the economic recession is biting hard on many households, it is thus germane for social interventions of this nature to help cushion the effects of the trying times on families.
Furthermore, Mrs. Ikpeazu has opened the frontiers for many Abia women to be self reliant by establishing their own businesses, providing implements like hairdressing machines, generators, refrigerators etc., and financial assistance for the takeoff of their businesses, invariably contributing her quota to the well-being of Abians.
One area our amiable Mother should be heralded is the creation of a serene and conducive operating environment for Governor Ikpeazu to perform, yes, inarguably, development has enablers which peace and unity stands incontrovertibly inclusive. The giants strides of this government wouldn’t have been feasible if a supportive and ambient environment was elusive thus playing the role of a virtuous woman whom the bible noted as a crown to the husband.
Abia is also lucky in this political dispensation to have a humane and easy going personality in Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu as “First Lady” whose preoccupation, thoughts and posture is to better the lives of all irrespective of tribe and fraternal disposition.
It is no gainsaying that there is no iota of pride inherent in Mrs. Ikpeazu’s life and disposition, as such a rare quality and virtue for women occupying such exalted and significant positions.
To assert that she is the best match for her husband, Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, is not a mere conjecture but a reality and the signs are there for all to behold, as both iconic personalities are working pari-passu to leave a bettered for generations Abians unborn.
The philanthropic inclination of Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu is certainly a work in progress, from the backdrop of her daily engagements and activities it is glaring that she always fashion out ways and create avenues to reach out to people in need, as most times she visits hospitals and health centres in the State where she settles medical bills of different categories of patients, the disabled have been getting their fair share of attention via the provision of wheelchairs and other supports for alleviation of their stress.
Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu has been a trailblazer considering her stance and support for women empowerment and active participation in politics, she has spearheaded an intense campaign for considerable appointments for the women folk, the results is bare for all to see, all appointments in the State is gender sensitive, even the last local government election saw many women councillors emerging feasibly, in subsequent elections the number will certainly double.
We pray that God will graciously avail our Mother more resources to continue reaching out to all Abians in need.
