Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has nominated the Ohanku road in Aba and Umunwanwa-Eziudo-Mbaise (Imo State) road from Umuahia for construction by the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC).
The Governor made the nomination while responding to the demand of the Chairman Governing Board of the NDDC, Senator Ndoma Egba, who, in company of the Managing Director of NDDC and management staff paid him a courtesy call on him at the of Government House, Umuahia.
Governor Ikpeazu said that the Ohanku road is of critical important to the economy of Abia State while that of Umunwanwa-Eziudo-Mbaise would link Umuahia South to Mbaise in Imo State.
Dr. Ikpeazu maintained that his administration had earlier wanted to commence work at Ohanku road but was stalled by a contractor, who claimed the road was contracted to him by the NDDC. He used the opportunity to inform that in Abia State, the government does roads that have serious economic importance and the minimal standard of the road his government builds is cement pavement technology.
Governor Ikpeazu said he was excited over the new spirit of the NDDC Board to carry out its functions and assured the team of partnership of Abia State government.
In his speech, the Chairman, NDDC Board, Senator Ndoma Egba said the delegation was in the State to seek partnership of the State in carrying out its functions.
He informed that the current Board is building confidence with member States through visits to the States.
He further admitted that the Board has not done much in Abia State as it has many abandoned projects. The Chairman requested the Governor to nominate roads to the new Board for construction, in collaboration with the state government .
