Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and Visitor of Abia State University, Uturu says the State is set to establish three industrial clusters in the State that would employ many graduates.
The Governor was speaking during the 25th convocation of ABSU. He charged graduands to become vendors of hope for the society by imbibing the virtues they were taught in the university. According to the Governor, it is wrong for anyone to talk ill against his school, almamater or State but contribute to better Nigeria.
In his speech, the Honourable Chancellor of the school appreciated the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for showing great deal of interest to make ABSU one of the best State owned universities. He also used the opportunity to call on all to come to the aid of the school.
Also speaking, the Pro-Chancellor & Chairman Governing Council, ABSU, Senator Adolph Wabara, thanked the Governor for offering himself as lecturer to contribute to the academic moulding of the students. He commended the management of the university under the leadership of Prof. Uche Ikonne for his transformation agenda in the school, including the completion of the connection of the university electricity to the national grid; thereby making the school to be free from running dissel which has been the case for the last 36 years, establishment of linkages and memoradum of understanding with Oxford University, London among others.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor,ABSU,Prof. Uchenna Ikonne extold Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for the visible attention he has continued to pay to the institution including offering himself as a lecturer in the school.
Prof. Ikonne disclosed that the school pays salaries & pensions regularly to the staff,conducts monthly inaugural lecture, has commenced online delivery of transcripts, installation of digital electronic board for all faculties, online postgraduate admission process among other achievements. The event which featured commissioning of a transformer to link the school to the national grid of electricity, foundation-laying ceremony of ASUU Secretariate by the Governor, witnessed graduation of 4,447 candidates and conferment of honourary Doctorate degrees to some deserving individuals.
