Cliftonville forward, Jay Donnelly was on Tuesday sentenced to three months in jail over charges of sharing a picture of himself having sex with a 16-year-old girl.
Donnelly admitted to the charge back in November last year at Belfast Magistrates’ Court, Northern Ireland.
The 23-year-old had been on bail pending the outcome of the appeal against his original sentence.
Daily Star reports that at the resume sitting on Tuesday morning, the judge, David McFarland declined to suspend the Irish League star’s sentence appeal, stating that a custodial term was appropriate, given the need to send out a strong “deterrent” to others.
McFarland, however, ordered Donnelly to be taken down to the cells ahead of being transported to prison.
“Donnelly had treated the girl as a sexual conquest or trophy and had taken and shared the picture to boast about his sexual exploits to friends.
“It remains forever on the worldwide web, it’s incapable of deletion,” McFarland said.
