URURUKA / NEW UMUAHIA ROAD; THE ONGOING CONSTRUCTION

The skid mark of my vehicle tires could not pass through Ururuka/Old Express road without stopping. I matched the break of my vehicle to a halt at Obikabia junction, parked right beside the army check point, accompanied by the hilarious Omo, seated in the front seat.
In the serene atmosphere of the sanitation exercise, I heard the roaring sound of a Caterpillar approaching in my direction – Trackcare Constructions Company workers were still at work. In minutes, the Caterpillar was close by, a voice yelled out from the earth-moving equipment asking, “what are you doing? Who are you? I guessed the questions were directed to me but kept taking pictures until when they came close enough, and I replied to them using the master’s slogan – “kota nu sign.” Only then did one of them recognize me and told his colleague, “he’s Newman, I recognize him,” and to me, he said, “Oga Newman gwa wo l’anyi no l’oru, jisie ike nna m ukwu”.
The success of easy exit out and into the Enyimba, city can not be achieved without ensuring the materialization of a smoother ride along this road. Consequential to the abandonment of Ikot-Ekpene road by Federal Government, the of Ururuka road axis has remained the only remedy for those traveling to and from Akwa-Ibom State, no wonder the expansion and dualization it is presently undergoing are not only necessary but timely. This is one road that will immensely add value to the economy of Abia State and enhance the aesthetic beauty of the Aba metropolis when completed. Kudos to our indefatigable Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.
