These were the words of Mrs Victoria Mbakwe, widow of the former Governor of the old Imo State, the Late Chief Samuel Onunaka Mbakwe.
The former first lady was at the Governor’s Lodge Aba with Alex, Mbakwe’s first son to pay a courtesy call on Governor Okezie Ikpeazu over the weekend.
She told Governor Ikpeazu that having seen what he is presently doing in Aba, she is convinced that he will replicate her husband’s records in road construction noting that since after her husband left office, no other administration has ever given attention to Aba roads the way Ikpeazu is doing.
She expressed delight at the ongoing works at FAULKS ROAD will be most comprehensive since after her husband built the road in 1980.
She supported the emphasis on Aba stating that during the time of her husband, more roads were fixed in Aba which in turn helped government raise revenue to fix other parts of the state.
She said that with the Osisioma Flyover Project, Ikpeazu is even surpassing her husband’s record because her husband never built any Flyover.
She encouraged Governor Ikpeazu not to be worried by the work of detractors reminding him that her husband was also called the WEEPING GOVERNOR then because he was ready to go to any length including weeping to find money to build the state.
Responding, Governor Ikpeazu thanked the Mbakwes for the visit and assured them that by the grace of God, his administration will rebuild Aba and return it to the days of Dee SamMbakwe. He said that the emphasis on Aba is a deliberate policy aimed at using it to jump-start development in other parts of the state. The Governor said that he has just approved that work should commence on PH road as a way of showing that he means business though it’s a federal road, assuring that by the time he will leave office, Abians will remember him with fondness.
He assured Mrs Mbakwe that he will not allow the developmental legacies of her husband to perish but will build on it to attain sustainable development.
According to the Governor, Mbakwe’s style of governance is a reference point in development oriented government and remains a major inspiration to him in his quest to serve the people of Abia State.
