Town Hall Meetings is, indeed, strategic in entrenching good governance in every democratic setting, as it is a platform to acquaint the people about the happenings in the governance arena, thus given them undiluted information and feedback of the the programs, policies and objectives of the government in power.
This is amongst one of the pro-people innovations of the government, the government of Abia State has, through the office of the senior special assistant to the governor on rural reorientation and sensitization, Chief Chibuike Godwin Onyendilefu established a community based interaction programme which is meant to enable the people participate fully in the governance and the projections of the State.
The programme which has been running in the Abia central senatorial zone for a while took a turn at Isialangwa south LGA. Chief Onyendilefu used the occasion to call on all Abians to foster love, peace, unity and progress. The event also featured prominently the inauguration of the participants who became rural influencers of their different communities, equally reporting back to the people, what the government is doing.
Speaking at the occasion also, the speaker of the Abia State house of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Chikwendu Kanu thanked the governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for his show of love to the people of Isialangwa south which is reflective in the appointment of their sons and daughters into positions of trust and his bid in fixing infrastructures in the area.
The speaker also urged the people of Isialangwa south LGA not to allow a parochial interest of a few, destroy their efforts rather than to unit in forming a common front to enable them attain the collective goal and objective of governance.
Also contributing, the special adviser to the Abia State governor on community matters, Mr. Patric Anyanwu opined that is was time to have the role of traditional rulers in the laws that governs our land. He gave an assurance that the government is working out modalities to set up community development unions which shall have a direct assess with the government.
Some of the attendees at the meeting used the occasion to thank God for the gift of Dr. Ikpeazu as the governor of Abia State as well as enumerated some of their challenges.
Mr. Samuel Enyeribe stated that Nigerian problem has never been policy making, rather, implementation and called on the government to fulfill its campaign promises to the people. He decried that the people of Ebeyi Nvosi has only one civil servant in the State. He also pleaded with the government to help the people of the community to rehabilitate the only school in that community.
Mr. Augustine Elewa Ohawandu the chairman of the carpenters association of the Isialangwa south LGA pleaded with the government to include them in the scheme of things with regards to execution the government contracts.
Mr. Sampson ihejirika on behalf of the the village heads called on the government to sponsor them to enable them harness the potentials of the hinterlands.
Lady Cicilia Onwuka called on the government to continue with its current speed and tempo and possibly extend it infrastructural renaissance across the state.
Responding, chief Onyendilfu assured them of governments positive responses to their requests.
