WINNER OF THE 2021 SUN AWARDS: NKECHI IKPEAZU, “MOTHER THERESA OF ABIA” (i.e. The Sun News)

Nkechi Ikpeazu Ph,D, the wife of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, epitomizes the adage “every successful man has a wife.” When it comes to the most vulnerable women and children in her community, she is more than just a wife who strives to make her husband happy. She is a role model, a Mother Theresa.

Mrs. Ikpeazu, a wife of a Seventh-Day Adventist minister, works alongside her husband to assist those in need. She is making a difference in people’s lives through her passion project, the Vicar Hope Foundation (VHF). She offers assistance to those who are physically unable to help themselves, providing a platform for advancing women and children’s rights through educational opportunities, providing healthcare and other necessities to those who are less fortunate—and assisting in the placement of motherless babies and orphans in loving homes.

This type of organization provides material assistance, financial assistance, moral support, social amenities, and the teaching of self-sufficiency skills, among other things. Women’s and children’s rights and HIV/AIDS awareness are among the other responsibilities they have.

Her work with the World Health Organization, for example, has resulted in the construction of 12 three-bedroom bungalows for low-income Abians, the training of thousands of people in how to start their businesses, the distribution of maternity kits to expectant mothers, and the coaching of health workers in neonatal resuscitation. Nkechi is responsible mainly for the free school lunch program in Abia State, which is still in operation today. It is clear from Nkechi’s example that the scriptures encourage us to assist those in need whenever we are able.

Former banker and teacher, while employed by the Abia State Government, she was responsible for various tasks including registering cooperatives. A matron for the Nigerian Cycling Federation. For her work and renowned service to humanity, she is The Sun’s Most Supportive First Lady.
