ABSU GRADUANDS TO COLLECT DEGREE CERTIFICATES ON CONVOCATION DAY
As part of measures to reposition the Abia State University, all successful graduates of the University will, from now, go home with the Certificates on the day of convocation.
This new measure will start effectively this Saturday at the 26th Convocation Ceremony of the University.
This is a heartwarming news indeed. Most graduates of the University who graduated many years ago are yet to even collect their certificates.
Director of Academic Planning of the University, Professor Gazie Okpara said this yesterday while addressing journalists on the sidelines of the week long convocation ceremony.
Prof Okpara said that innovation is part of the new strategies developed by the leadership of the University under the able Vice Chancellorship of Professor Uche Ikonne, noting that since Ikonne took over as VC, a series of new and progressive innovations have been put in place. New faculties like Engineering are now in place. Brand new courses like Public Health and others are now offered in the university.
According to the Professor of Marketing, when Ikonne was appointed Vice Chancellor in 2015, ABSU was No. 97 on the list of Nigerian universities in terms of rating. Today, it’s number 30 in a country with close to 200 Universities.
On the Employability of graduates of Nigerian Universities, ABSU is now No. 17, up from No. 60 in 2015.
The University now runs a paperless and internet driven process which has changed completely the way the institution is run. Students now check their examination results online as against the old practice of running after lecturers and non academic staff for results.
Prof Okpara also used the opportunity to inform students that the University had since resumed for academic activities.
