The Abia State Executive Council has approved the holding of Town-hall
meetings in the three Senatorial Zones of the State.
The meetings were aimed at intimating Abians on the activities of government, especially, as it concerns the funds received from Paris’ Club and how government intends to disbursts it.
Addressing journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Culture & Strategy, Comrade Bonnie Iwuoha said that in line with the mandate given to the Ministry of Public Utilities to restore street lights in Umuahia and Aba metropolis, the Council approved the report of the restoration of the lights, adding that 25 transformers have been received by the Ministry which will soon be distributed to communities.
He disclosed that government has decided to set up a panel of inquiry to find out what laid to the fall of the constructed electricity poles, an incident that took place between Ubaka and Ntigha recently. The Commissioner further informed that the
Council has approved the report on the need to re-organise the State Local Government Council’s verification, noting that the EXCO commended the Ministry of Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs for a job well done and asserted that when carried out, it will save money for the State.
According to the Commissioner, approval has been given to the renovation of the Governor’s lodge, rehabilitation of 3.0 Afara Technical-Trinity College road, rehabilitation of 1.5 killometre Aba-Owerri road through Railway crossing, 4.3 Obingwa-Umaizo-Abatoir roads, Urata, 3.0 kilometre World Bank Estate, Umuahia, 1.1 kilometre link road Afara, Umuahia, reconstruction of 6.81 kilometre Udeagbala road, construction of 8.0 kilometre Agbozu Cocoa Plantation road, Uzuakoli, 500 metres Aba Command road and 1.7 Ibere road by Ngwa road, Aba. Also approved by the State Executive Council was construction of Fly-over concrete bridge at Osisioma.
