The Governor of Abia State Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has disbursed the sum of eighty one million, three hundred and eighty two thousand, five hundred naira N81,382,500.00 to youths across 6 Local Governments in the State.
The State Focal Person for YESSO and Director General, Education For Employment (E4E), Mr. Endi Ezengwa disclosed that the breakdown of the beneficiaries are as follows;
1. Umunneochi = 3,510,000
2. Ukwa = 18,450,000
3. Ugwunagbo = 7,290,000
4. Isiala Ngwa South = 13,860,000
5. Isiala Ngwa North = 18,337,500
6. Ohafia = 19,935,000
According to him, this represents 3 months stipends for 3,617 participants under the YESSO Public Workfare programme. Participants take part in various community programmes in their LGAs and receive N7,500 a month as stipend.
Mr. Ezengwa further disclosed that this is a pilot programme and would be replicated in other Local Government Areas of the State in due course. He equally noted that 1,150 educated youths have been registered for the Skills for Jobs (S4J) component of the programme.
In addition to being trained for various skills, Mr. Ezengwa informed that they also receive a monthly stipend of N7,500 to cover the cost of transportation to their training centres and expressed that with this, there is hope for youths in Abia State.
