History was made today as Abia State government officially Launched a new Tele-Health Initiative known as Dial-a-Doc Direct.
Speaking while launching the Initiative, at International Conference Centre, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia, the Vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for the wonderful initiative, saying that leveraging technology such as phone to access healthcare services is a right thing to be done in healthcare delivery in the State.
Prof. Osinbajo assured Governor Okezie Ikpeazu that the Federal government would partner with him in the State development oriented programmes.
Making a speech the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu said the PDP was a dream come through as Abia people can now access healthcare services even from rural communities.
He disclosed that it is the desire of the administration to improve healthcare in the State hence the programme was initiated adding there is a link between the primary healthcare in the State and the call centre of the programme.
Dr. Ikpeazu said one of the gains of the initiative is that patients have choice of whether to talk with a female or male Doctor as well as make choice to talk in vernacular.
Also speaking, the Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole, represented by the Medical Director of FMC, Umuahia, Abali Chukwu and the Commissioner for Health, Dr. John Ahukanna appreciated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s drive in enhancing healthcare of the people of the State.
Speaking earlier, the Coordinator of the initiative, Dr. Omass Libias said the initiative makes it easy for people to access healthcare even from their homes and offices.
She said one can gain from the initiative through owning a scratch card dedicated for it, adding that the programme is first of its kind in African continent.
Dr. Libias thanked the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for taken a bold step to achieve it.
