The Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe has given a 48 hour ultimatum to the Chairman of Ngwa Road Market to work with ASEPA refuse Coordinator for Aba South to clear the heaps of refuse at the Ngwa Road Market popularly called Ahia Ohuru in Aba.
Rt. Hon. Ndukwe gave the ultimatum when he paid an undisclosed the market following repeated SOS text messages from traders that the building from Line 3 – line 18 is weak and has started caving in on traders even as he appealed to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to visit the area with a view to clearing it of drug peddlers who have taken over the roof top section of the market.
Accompanied by the Chairman of the Market and some members of his executives as well as the ASEPA refuse Coordinator for Aba south, the Commissioner was shocked to observe the gory sight of refuse dump on top of the shops’ roofs even drug barons and hookers who are having it all free to peddle their trade at the roof top section of the market.
He was not happy to notice that apart from the menace of street trading that has destroyed almost the greater portion of the Ngwa road axis within the same market, that some traders in the market are wilfully trading under the most horrifying conditions, regretting that the same people who use such horrible area for trading purposes would turn round and blame government for the state of the environment and market.
Rt. Hon. Ndukwe was of the opinion that the markets deserve more attention than envisaged revealing that the next move would be to clear the area of illegal traders as was done in Ariara market where people now move in and out with ease while those that have shops inside the market are happy making their sales.
