DÉJÀ VU AT OMUMA ROAD…

7

A fortnight ago, I got into a heated argument with some members of one of the WhatsApp groups I manage.

The subject: Omuma road.

They disagreed with me on the fact that the road is presently undergoing reconstruction by the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration.

They shared some old pictures claiming they were recent pictures of the state of Omuma road. At that point, I stopped arguing and I promised them I will visit the road myself and get the most recent pictures.

I have since shut their mouths up five days ago when I shamed them with the pictures of the ongoing transformation of Omuma Road. Expectedly, it was a feeling of “Déjà Vu”.

SUFFICE TO SAY, DR. OKEZIE IKPEAZU HAS INDEED OUTPERFORMED HIS PREDECESSORS.

A bird’s eye-view at the dilapidation that crippled all the roads in Abia’s major cities before 2015 is a testament that there is presently no single road in good motorable condition one could pinpoint was done by previous administrations.

So, what is the argument about when I say, “Dr. Ikpeazu is the first Abia Governor to have laid such infrastructural foundation to spur the much needed rapid development of the State”?

At Omuma road, I witnessed ongoing construction of over 3.5km road, wide enough to pass for a double lane.

On site, Engr. Uzoma Onuoha, the MD of Eckleen Integrated Service Nig Ltd, the company handling the construction said they were working in adherence to the Governor’s instructions: “assuring that quality work would be done on the road using Rigid Pavement Technology”.

From concrete mixture, to pavement design and thickness, and to stability and flow paremeters, everything is measured to incorporate a statistical approach to quality assurance, as the construction company is not stingy with quality work.

Truly, Abia is having its very first shot at result oriented leadership under Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu’s watch.

Feel free to listen to the testimonies of Omuma Road residents on state of the road before and now.
