“I AM HAPPY THAT THE PROACTIVE 7th ASSEMBLY IS SERIOUSLY WORKING ON THE VAPP BILL” – MRS IKPEAZU

The wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu has expressed gratitude to she called proactive the 7th Abia State House of Assembly for seriously working on the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill with a view to giving it speedy passage.

Speaking at a World Press Conference held in Umuahia to mark the Global #16Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, Mrs. Ikpeazu noted that by their gesture, the House led by Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji has shown that it is committed to the protection of lives and rights of the people of Abia State.

“It is also pertinent to note that for several years, efforts to pass the bill has been on snail slow speed until this coalition of Civil Society Organization came together, join forces and also met a willing House of Assembly that puts the people first,” Said Mrs. Ikpeazu.

She pledged the support of her Foundation and all the coalition of Civil Society Organizations including NCWS, FIDA and many more women to the Legislative processes and the Legislators.

Also speaking in a question and answer session, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Ukachi Amala said that Government was working seriously to stop Hawking by children during school hours.
According to her, the two options available for the Ministry are to either take hold of them, take care of them and send them to school and return them or could as well take the child to the house, pick their parents and make them work for Government.
