The wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, has received the Excellent Service Award to Humanity by the Women Wing of the Abia State Town Union’s Association, Lagos State.
The award came as a recognition of the efforts of Mrs. Ikpeazu in women and youth empowerment during an empowerment programme of the down trodden organized by the Lagos State branch of the Association at the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos.
The wife of the Governor advised every woman to engage herself in something meaningful to help ease the burden of the family to the man of the house
She explained that the Abia State Government led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is interested in the empowerment of women and the youths.
Mrs. Ikpeazu used the occasion to advise mothers to make friends with their daughters in order to understand their emotions, maintain peace and promote same at all times.
She further encouraged mothers to ensure that their daughters know their genotype before getting married to avoid the scourge of sickle cell anemia.
In an opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Chimaobi Anyaso said that the event was significant because it was about the empowerment of the down trodden in the society, adding that it would go along way to alleviate poverty.
He called on well meaning Abians to emulate the Governor’s wife by supporting the initiative.
Earlier in her speech, the President of the Association, Mrs. Nkechinyere Alaribe, explained that the main aim of the women wing of the association was to bring together all Abia indigenes in Lagos under one umbrella to maintain their cultural heritage.
She noted that the association has organized seminars, vocational trainings, medical outreach to lift the down trodden out of poverty but added that the association needs vehicle to enable them reach out to those in the rural areas.
