The ceremonies marking the 28 anniversary of the creation of Abia State was held yesterday with the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu assuring Abians that his administration would be remembered for the quality of roads constructed by it.

Speaking at the International Conference Centre, Ogurube layout, Umuahia, venue of the event, the Governor disclosed that his administration deployed Grade A contractors on road constructions and the roads constructed so far have survived rainy seasons without developing portholes.

The Governor used the opportunity to pay tribute to Abia founding fathers and those who have served Abia State in various capacities and thanked God for the unity, peace and security which the State has enjoyed. He noted that Abia is one of the States that enjoy rancour-free relationship among her past and present Governors and other political leaders as well as among the three arms of government and assured Abians of better days ahead even as he congratulated all Abians on the anniversary.

In his speech, the Chairman of the occasion and Chairman, Abia State Advisory Council, Ezeogo Dr. Anagha Ezeikpe urged Abians to have Abia in mind in whatever they do. Ezeogo Anagha Ezeikpe noted that the reason for preparing the Abia Charter of Equity was to serve as a guide in sharing political positions in the State, especially for the governorship seat to be rotating from one senatorial zone to the other and expressed joy that the governorship seat has successfully rotated through the three senatorial zones of the State.

The event which attracted members of the National Assembly, wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, the Deputy Governor and his wife, Secretary to State Government, the Head of Service, members of the Abia State Advisory Council, Traditional Rulers among other dignitaries featured, cutting of the anniversary cake, presentation of awards to nine deserving Abians, live performance of an Abia born music legend Paulson Kalu and presentation of the 28th Anniversary Lecture titled ABIA STATE – 28 YEARS AFTER by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Prof. Madu Iwe.
