Technology expert and entrepreneur, Sir Charles Aladekomo, has said at least two million policemen should be recruited and equipped for Nigeria to effectively tackle corruption and contain crime.
According to information on Wikipedia, Nigeria Police Force has a staff strength of about 371,800, though efforts are on to increase the number.
Aladekomo, according to a statement in Osogbo on Tuesday by his media aide, Biodun Ademoye, spoke in Abu Dhabi while addressing a group of African businessmen and culture promoters.
The statement quoted the technology expert as saying that “recruitment of such number of policemen will assist in creating jobs, reduce unemployment and ensure effective enforcement of the nation’s laws.”
“A safe environment would attract foreign direct investment into the country, and this will lead to creation of more jobs and prosperity,” he added.
Aladekomo, who is one of the brains behind the success of the e-payment platforms in Nigeria, also advised that the police should make use more of technology in tackling crime and prosecuting criminals in the country.
On the 2019 elections, Aladekomo condemned politicians for heating up the polity through hate speech, urging them to base their campaigns on issues that had direct impact on people’s lives.
He called on the nation’s youths to take active part in politics as their future would be determined by the quality of leaders elected into power.
