Abia Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has charged the members of the newly constituted Abia State Scholarship Board to do thorough assessment of prospective beneficiaries of the State scholarship before making selection.
The Governor gave the charge today while inaugurating the State Scholarship Board at the Executive Chambers of Government House Umuahia. He said that his administration attaches importance to education, hence it made education one of the pillars of its government.
Governor Ikpeazu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu said that the Board is saddled with the responsibility of granting scholarship to Abia children. He charged the Board members to explore other oppotunities of raising funds for the support of the programme.
Giving a vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Scholarship Board and former Ambassador of Nigeria to Agentina, Chief Empire Kanu assured that members would seek ways of raising money through collaborations with relevant partners to support the scheme.
Ambassador Kanu appreciated the Governor for appointing them into the Board and vowed that they would bring wealth of experience to bear in carrying out the assignment.
The full members of the Board are; His Excellency, Ambassador Empire Kanu – Chairman, Chief David Nwogu – Member, Mrs Achama Malik Egbuta, PhD – Member, Professor Sam N Agu – Member, Dr. Mrs Nnenna Anyanwu – representative of the Ministry of Education, Mrs Odochi Christiana Onuoha – Executive Secretary.
