Four suspected members of the Boko Haram sect were separately killed in two fresh attacks that took place in central and northern parts of Borno State.
Some two fleeing fighters of the sect were shot dead in crossfire by the military in Gubio Local Government Area of the state while other two female suicide bombers were also killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) they were carrying.
Army Spokesman at 8-Task Force Division, Col. Timothy Antigha, said in a statement he issued Sunday night that troops of 5-Brigade Garrison, Gubio, had killed two among Boko Haram terrorists fleeing from the ongoing clearance operation in one of their hideouts in Gambo-Yukku forest.
He said no soldier sustained any injury or was lost during the operation.
The Police Spokesman in the state, DSP Victor Isuku, had also issued a statement, confirming a foiled suicide bomb attack within Maiduguri metropolis.
He said that at 6:45pm on Sunday, two female suicide bombers attempted to infiltrate the township from Mafa-Dikwa LGA axis, explaining, “They were sighted by vigilant security personnel deployed on patrol. Apparently startled by the presence of the security patrol team, and in order to avoid arrest, one of the bombers hurriedly detonated her IED vest, killing herself and her partner in a nearby farmland close to NDLEA checkpoint along Maiduguri-Mafa highway, outskirt of Maiduguri township. No other casualty recorded. Police patrol /EOD teams were mobilized to sanitize the scene /vicinity, and render the unexploded IED vest of the second bomber safe.”
