Abia State government says efforts are in top gear to improve healthcare services in the State as the State would soon take delivery of some containers of medical equipment from Project CURE, USA.
The State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu made this known while touring the General Hospitals in the State with the representative of Project CURE, a United States base organisation that donates medical supplies and equipment to developing countries, Bev Sloan.
Conducting the Project CURE representative round General hospitals in the State, the Governor, represented by his Personal Physician, Dr. Mike Enyinnaya said there was need to visit the hospitals so as to identify the various needs of each General Hospital in the State. He stated that all the General hospitals need attention in terms of man-power, medical equipment, furniture among others, disclosing that the State government has plans to recruit medical personnel of different fields and deploy them to the various General hospitals in the State. He maintained that the State was partnering with the Project CURE, USA for the supply of medical equipment and consumables.
The Governor thanked the Hospitals Management Board and General Hospitals for their commitment in their job in spite of the challenges they pass through and encouraged them to continue.
Speaking, the representative of Project CURE, USA and Hospital Site Assessor, Bev Sloan said she was in Abia State to see things for herself to enable her make recommendation of the equipment that are actually needed in the General Hospitals in the State.
She stressed that her organisation is into supply of medical consumables and equipment and informed that the hospitals visited are hopeful as she would make recommendation for the supply of the needs identified.
Responding, one of medical Doctors in General Hospitals and Doctor in-charge of General Hospital, Arochukwu, Dr. Nelson Ogboh commended the efforts of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu led administration in fixing and upgrading the General Hospitals, describing the action as a welcome development to the healthcare services of the State. He listed some needs of the hospitals to include lack of basic medical equipment, infrastructure, capacity building, shortage of staff among others.
The hospitals visited include, Arochukwu General hospital, ABSUTH, Abia Specialist, Amachara hospital, HMB Dental Centre, Mgboko General hospital among others.
