The Peoples Republic of China has become a good example of an industrialized market economy of the 21st century. This resounding feat was not attained in a vacuum, rather through articulate visionary State planning that galvanized the inherent potentials of that nation to leap to today’s enviable world position. Moreover, it could be recalled that this great nation relied on technological transfer through sending their citizens to the then technologically developed and leading countries of the world to understudy their economies and industrial models with a view to replicate same at home. Today, it has paid off as it is anticipated that in no distant time, the acclaimed second strongest economy will emerge first.
Abia, with its entrepreneurial strength has many things in common with the Chinese republic. In the fabrication, Aba, the commercial nerve center of Abia and industrial hub of the south eastern States is a force to reckon with in West African sub-region. Little wonder then She was christened the “Japan of Africa”. There is no doubt that with the right economic policies and support, the import dependent Nigeria’s economy will look the way of Abia, nay Aba for majority of her needs.
It is therefore a thing of joy that the present administration of Governor Ikpeazu has prioritized local content and industrialization of Abia State through support for SMSEs, local entrepreneurs and manufacturers and seen to the marketing and championing of the Aba-Made products both to Nigerians and globally.
Governor Ikpeazu did not stop there. He has made frantic efforts to ensuring that our indigenous products are of global standard. For instance, Abia Shoemakers were taken to Turkey for industrial survey while the first 30 out of 100 others were taken to China to understudy automated shoemaking. This is to ensure improvement in quality and quantity of shoe production in Abia State, hence the visit of the Chinese ambassador Dr. Zhou Pingjian with other senior Chinese embassy officials to Abia is a welcomed development as it is an avenue to strengthen bilateral ties between the PRC and Abia State; the workable means for technological transfer. This will turn to be a win-win situation for both parties involved.
Furthermore, the Abia State factory that is been mulled to be established in the State will fly on the wings of this important visit as the development-hungry Governor Ikpeazu will leverage on this visit to activate talks that will see to the fruition of this laudable projects with their multiplier effects to the State and her citizens. Incontestably, ideas bordering on Chinese model of development is being shared to our scholar Governor who is desirous to develop Abia in all spheres.
The prospect and gains of this visit is numerous for Abia State as Abia’s Government has marketed the State as a potential fertile ground to grow Indigenous-Chinese businesses that will take more Abia youths out of the streets into the job placement basket.
It is glaring that the Governor Ikpeazu economic blueprint is superb with its ability to speedily transform Abia to an economic hub and thus, take us to our Canaan land.
