BAREFOOTED ABIA INDIGENT PUPILS RECEIVE SANDALS AS IKPEAZU COMMENDS DONORS

About 600 pupils across the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State have received ‘Made in Aba’ quality sandals courtesy of the Emeka Ikwuagwu Foundation in conjunction with the Vicar Hope Foundation, a pet project of the Governor’s wife.
Speaking at Michael Okpara Auditorium, venue of the special event tagged “Operation No Ten Toes”, a school parlance for attending school bare footed, the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu commended Emeka Ikwuagwu Foundation and Vicar Hope Foundation for assisting in providing school sandals for the indigent pupils. The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Sir. Ude Oko Chukwu appreciated the Foundation for deciding to sponsor 20 persons in learning shoemaking and enjoined well meaning Abians to take a cue from the action of the Foundation in supporting the government in its efforts to develop the State.
He urged the beneficiaries of the sandals to be committed in studies and those to be trained in shoemaking not to take it for granted as well as encouraged the awardees of the Foundation to continue making the State proud in their various endeavours which made them to be so honoured.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Chief Ike Anyatonwu thanked the Emeka Ikwuagwu Foundation for adding value to the governance of the State. He also expressed the readiness of his Ministry to partner with other Abians or NGOs who would want to identify with the programmes of the present administration in the State.
In his speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Navy Captain Chris Osondu (Rtd.) commended the Emeka Ikwuagwu Foundation and Vicar Hope Foundation for deciding to assist 600 pupils by providing them with school sandals and sponsoring 20 persons to learn shoemaking in Aba.
He said the action of the Foundation is targeted at supporting the Governor’s works and policies, especially in SMEs.
Speaking earlier, the convener and founder of Emeka Ikwuagwu Foundation, Mr. Emeka Ikwuagwu said he was inspired to assist the less privileged based on his experience in life, adding that he believes in touching lives and impacting people through empowerments.
According to him, the “Operation No Ten Toes” was aimed at stopping attendance of schools by indigent pupils in the State barefooted. He also said that providing the sandals and training of people on shoemaking techniques were ways of supporting the the Governor’s intense campaign in promoting the ‘Made in Aba’ products.
The event featured award presentations to deserving Abians by the Foundation, while the awardees were; Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu (represented by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Lady Vivian Oko Chukwu), Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (represented), Commissioner for Youth Development, Chief Ike Anyatonwu, Uko Nkole (represented), Chief Ginger Onwusibe, the executive Chairman of Isialangwa North, Chris Odinaka Igwe (represented), Leaut. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (represented), General Ike Nwachukwu, (represented), Miss Joy Eze Chikamnayo (represented) and Dr. Gregory Ibe (represented)
