Five Northern Governors led by the Chairman Northern Governors’ Forum, Alhaji Kashim Shettima of Borno State have visited Abia State on a peace mission.
Receiving his Governor colleagues in the Executive chambers, Government House, Umuahia, the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu said he has a duty to ensure that everyone under his watch is safe.
He informed that in order to grip the security situation in the State, the curfew imposed in Aba has been relaxed to be from 10pm to 6am.
The Governor, who thanked the visiting Governors maintained that the focus now should be on how to support the federal government to be a better economy for the development of Nigeria.
In his speech, the leader of the delegation, Alhaji Kashim Shettima said they came to show solidiarity with the Abia Governor, who has maintained peace in the State this challenging time.
He said they are proud of Igbo people and sued for peace in the entire nation, stressing thus “if Nigeria is in crises, where will we go, so we have to make this country work”
The delegation thanked the Governor on behalf of the Governors of the 19 States in the North. He said they wil addres the northern communities in the State and invited the South East Governors to come to Kano, Kaduna and other parts of the North to also address the Igbo communities there on the need for all to uphold peace saying that leaders have a lot to do in ensuring peace.
Other Governors that visited included Aminu Masari – Katsina, Aminu Tambuwal – Sokoto, Simon Darlung – Plateau and Abubarka Alika Bagodo – Kebbi.
