EFCC Detains Bobrisky over Alleged Naira Abuse
Investigation Underway for Flaunting and Spraying New Naira Notes at Public Events
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Command, has initiated an investigation into Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky, for alleged abuse of the Nigerian Naira. The social media influencer and cross-dresser is under scrutiny for reportedly spraying Naira notes during a recent event, an act captured in a viral video that has sparked widespread attention.
Bobrisky’s actions came to light following his appearance at the premiere of “Ajakaju,” a movie produced by Eniola Ajao, a renowned Nollywood actress and producer. The event took place at Film One Circle Mall, Lekki, Lagos, on March 24, 2024, where Bobrisky was filmed flaunting and dispersing new Naira notes, a gesture that contravenes Nigeria’s laws on currency handling.
Further investigations by the EFCC revealed that this was not an isolated incident; Bobrisky had allegedly engaged in similar activities at various other events and parties across different locations. This pattern of behaviour prompted the commission to extend an invitation to the social media figure for questioning.
Responding to the invitation, Bobrisky appeared at the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Command on the morning of Wednesday, April 4, 2024. During the interrogation, he volunteered statements regarding the allegations against him. The EFCC has announced that, following the conclusion of their investigation, charges will be brought against him in court.
