The Federal government has said that Abia State is a pacesetter for production of Made-in-Nigeria products.
The Federal government’s spokesman and Minister for Information & Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed said this while speaking during a Town-hall meeting and launch of Change Begins With Me campaign held at International Conference Centre, Umuahia.
He appreciated the efforts of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu led administration in promoting Made-in Nigeria products, especially, the supply of boots to the Nigeria military which made the military to recognise Made-in-Nigeria products.
The Information Minister, who led other Ministers, including Okechukwu Enelama-Trade, Industry & Investment, Chris Ngige-Labour & Employment, Audu Ogbe-Agriculture & Rural Development and Abubakar Buhari, Minister of State for Mines & Steel to the State for a town-hall meeting stated that the event in Umuahia was a unique one, explaining that apart from the fact that it was a second edition of the meeting in the Southeast, Abia is the only place where both town-hall meeting and the campaign are held the same time.
He asserted that the Change campaign which was launched in September, 2016 was aimed at achieving an attitudinal change in social values among Nigerians. He encouraged people to ask questions as the town-hall meeting was initiated by the Federal government with a view to knowing what the people feel about the government policies and taking the feedback to the Federal government.
In their separate speeches, the Minister of Labour & Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige and his Trade, Industry & Investment counterpart commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Ikpeazu for encouraging entrepreneurship, Made-in-Nigeria products and establishment of skill acqusition centre in the State.
They viewed that every Nigerian should be self-employed through learning skills and advised young people to register in the N- POWER programme of the federal government that will be reopened in March.
Also the Minister for Agriculture and that of Mines, Audu Ogbe and Abubakar Buhari respectively said that Abia was known by agrarian policy of late Dr. Michael Okpara, stating that the State can make huge money in agriculture, especially in cocoa, cashew among others as potentials in Abia was much.
They disclosed that the federal government will launch cocoa in Abia, Ondo and Cross River. They extolled the “can-do spirit” of Abians, saying that it’s that kind of spirit that Nigeria needs today to be able to overcome recession.
The meeting witnessed questions and answers period in which many national issues were raised and tackled and was declared open by the Abia Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
