Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has approved the recruitment of a new crop of teachers that we would train and in turn will help train students in order to make the State fit into the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project very effectively.
IDEAS Project is a programme of the Federal Government with funding from the World Bank which is aimed at improving skills acquisition in Nigeria using a comprehensive approach and addressing key aspects of the skills development delivery system.
Speaking on the sideline of the State Government at a one day sensitization workshop on the IDEAS Project held on Monday in Umuahia, State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Kanaelechi Nwangwa, noted that the training and retraining of teachers was very crucial as to achieve the essence of the project regretting a situation where the current crop of teachers are getting outdated whereas the students are being updated.
The Commissioner said the state government was completely in agreement with an education that will make the child useful and will do everything it can to support a project that will achieve that.
Dr. Nwangwa informed that Governor Ikpeazu is very passionate about the IDEAS project, technical education, owing to his administration’s emphasis on usable and applicable education, hence the establishment of Education for Employment programme which he said has been a very relevant part of educational program of the state.
The Director General Education for Employment E4E programme, Mr. Endi Ezengwa thanked the team for coming to sensitize the relevant stakeholders about the IDEAS Project wished them a fruitful outing.
Earlier, the Director of Technical and Science Education in the Federal Ministry of Education identified the four components in which the IDEAS Project is structured as:
Incentivizing public-private partnership for enhanced quality and labour market orientation of skills development in public technical colleges, Improving skills formation for the formal sector, Increasing the availability of competent and motivated technical teachers and instructors in the Nigerian skills space as well as Strengthening the regulatory environment and public management capacities for market-oriented skills development.
She disclosed that a total budget of about 200 million US dollars has been earmarked for project that will last for five years which she said will assist the Federal Government of Nigeria to comprehensively address the challenge of securing a sufficient corps of adequately qualified, competent and motivated teachers to be available for technical colleges in Nigeria.
A Deputy Director in the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Uche Mbaogu, on part explained that the workshop was aimed at creating awareness for interested private sector collaboration with selected Federal Government and State technical colleges and informal sector in their respective specializations.
ABIA ONLINE reports that the sensitization workshop was organized for the South East zone with Abia State hosting as one of the selected States in the zone that will implement the IDEAS Project.
