The Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has revealed that the Abia State Poultry Clusters now produces poultry feed otherwise known as ‘Abia Feed’ in addition to providing every other thing needed for the poultry farmer ranging from training on feed production, poultry farming as well as the provision of market for the farmers.
Dr. Ikpeazu who stated this at the commissioning of the poultry Cluster in Umunna-Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North LGA also announced that the feed would be sold at a subsidized price of 2,000 naira only per bag for to encourage poultry farmers in the State.
In an interview at the event, the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Solicitor General of the State, Barr. (Mrs) Uzoamaka Ikonne said the Abia State Poultry Clusters in Umunna-Nsulu is the pilot of many other clusters that would be sited across the three Senatorial zones in the State and subsequently spread to all the LGAs in the State, disclosing that the Governor had already flagged-off the site for the construction for the Abia North zonal cluster.
Barr. Ikonne revealed that the infrastructure in the Cluster comprises an Administrative building, containing three training halls, 26 Office rooms, including self-contained rooms that house trainees, 69 Poultry pens with 55,500 capacity birds.
She expressed a sense of fulfilment that the project was completed and commissioned during her time as the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Abia State.
On his part, the Project Consultant, Accelerated Agricultural Development Scheme, Igwe Nonso Ogbunamiri informed that apart from the poultry clusters to be established across the three senatorial zones of the State, approval has also been given for the establishment of twenty-five capacity poultry cluster in the seventeen LGAS of the State, in addition to setting up poultry processing plants to mop up all birds produced in the State. He thanked the Governor for the project which he hoped would employ over 10,000 youths in the State.
