GOVERNOR IKPEAZU’S KIND OF YOUTH EMPOWERMENT…

12

Recently, so much noise has been made in relationship with youths empowerment. I have come across several posts made by some youths claiming they have not been empowered by the government. And I want to ask; how many of them have keyed into the ongoing youth empowerment programmes? Are they really positioning themselves for the empowerments?
The answer is capital “NO”.
Now, the conversation is rolling over the CBN ACCELERATED AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT SCHEME, but they won’t participate, they will stay in the comfort of their homes making incitive posts on social media platforms of how they have not been empowered.
Of all the empowerment programmes, you won’t see them in active participation.
Chei! A ga emeta kwa uwa nka emeta e?
It is true that in Nigeria’s politics, one of the main campaign promises of many politicians to their youths is ‘youth empowerment’. And over the years, Nigeria and of course, Abia State has witnessed many kinds of youth empowerment. Many politicians take pleasure in giving out motorcycles, popularly called Okada. Those who feel they would do theirs in big way give few buses to the youths while for some, youth empowerment is all about to dole money to the youths.
In his campaign promises, Abia Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu vowed to promote the ‘can-do-spirit’ of Abia youths, hence, he introduced a brand new kind of empowerment to the youths, which is skill acquisition.
Unfortunately, youths in the State seem to be expecting the Governor to buy buses, motorcycles, tricycles known as Keke and share to them as had been the tradition of politicians. Well, that seems to be the mentality of the youths which Dr. Ikpeazu has come to change for good. Ikpeazu’s empowerment strategy is very much different from others.
Dr. Ikpeazu established Education for Employment Initiative (E 4 E), which aims at training youths on several skill acquisitions. So far many Abia youths have been trained in different skills and the Governor has consistently assisted the beneficiaries of the skills.
It could be recalled that the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu assured the graduands of the empowerment programme of the Executive Chairman of Isialangwa North, Chief Ginger Onwusibe, that Abia State government will purchase with five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000) each, the products of the first ten persons among them. Of course, he directed all other Local Government Area Chairmen to emulate their Isialangwa North colleague in establishing such type of youth empowerment.
The present Ikpeazu led administration believes so much in it’s youths, acquiring real skills other than being forced into transport businesses that does not last but has many negative effects on the youths.
So far, the Governor has taken Abia youths overseas to learn modern shoe-making techniques to empower them. As at today, the ‘Made-in-Aba’ and Abia campaign has given great hope to the youths, who are now empowered for life.
Therefore, all and sundry are advised to buy the idea of the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu in his special kind of youth empowerment to turn around the economy of the State.
